Raised By Wounds explores how childhood trauma teaches us to survive instead of love and how those survival lessons follow us into adulthood.

DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Raised By Wounds by JK Hogan reached No. 1 in two Amazon Kindle categories during a September 2026 promotional campaign, marking a major milestone for the independently published book.

The book ranked No. 1 in Inner Child and No. 1 in 90-Minute Parenting & Relationships Short Reads. It also reached No. 2 in 90-Minute Self-Help Short Reads and climbed to No. 20,947 in the overall Kindle Store.

Beyond the rankings, the book centers on a difficult question: What happens when the things we learned to survive childhood follow us into adulthood?

Raised By Wounds: How Childhood Trauma Teaches Us to Survive Instead of Love looks at the ways childhood survival can become adult behavior. A child may learn to stay quiet because speaking up only makes things worse. Another may stop depending on people because too many people have failed to show up. Some become the strong one, the responsible one, or the person everyone calls when something needs to be handled.

Those behaviors may begin as protection. After enough time, they can start to feel like personality.

Hogan asks readers to consider a difficult question: Is this really who I am, or is this who I had to become to survive what happened to me?

“I didn’t write this book from a distance,” Hogan said. “I had to look at my own life and admit that some of the things I called strength were really ways I learned to protect myself. They helped me survive, but that didn’t mean they were helping me live.”

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Hogan writes from lived experience. His work speaks to people who learned how to survive before they understood what was happening to them—and who may now be watching those same survival habits affect the way they love, trust and connect with others.

Raised By Wounds does not ask readers to blame the past for everything happening in their lives today. It asks them to be honest about what shaped them, recognize what they may still be carrying and take responsibility for what happens next.

“We may not be responsible for the wounds we received,” Hogan said. “But we are responsible for making sure the people in our lives do not keep paying for them.”

That message is captured in the question at the center of Hogan’s work: “Who is paying the price today for the wounds you never chose?”

Hogan is a former youth pastor who holds a B.A. in Rhetoric from DePaul University. He writes and speaks about childhood wounds, emotional survival and breaking generational patterns.
