TUCSON, AZ, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dr. Shannon Harris, assistant professor and lead faculty for the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (BSHIM) program at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), has been named a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Harris received the recognition on October 6, 2026, during AHIMA26, the association’s national conference in San Antonio, Texas.
The AHIMA Fellowship Program recognizes health information professionals who have demonstrated significant and sustained contributions to the profession through leadership, service, excellence in education and professional practice, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Individuals who earn this distinction receive the designation of Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA), recognizing their longstanding commitment to advancing the field.
Harris brings more than 16 years of health information management experience to her role at UAGC, where she has served as full-time faculty since 2023. Her professional contributions include leadership and service within national, state, and regional health information management associations, as well as research focused on patient identity management, health information practices, and innovations in online education.
In 2025, Harris received the Distinguished Member Award from the Alabama Association of Health Information Management (AAHIM), further recognizing her dedication to advancing the profession.
“Dr. Harris’s recognition as an AHIMA Fellow is a testament to her professional expertise, leadership, and longstanding commitment to advancing health information management,” said Blake Naughton, vice provost for Global Campus Academic Affairs. “This distinction reflects the meaningful contributions she has made to the field and the valuable real-world perspective she brings to our students. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement and the example she sets for future health information professionals.”
Harris’s recognition underscores the commitment of UAGC faculty to professional excellence, industry engagement, and preparing students to navigate an evolving healthcare landscape.
