Independent Autopsy Results Pending in Death of 18-Year-Old Nolan Wells

JACKSON, MS – The family of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old Black teenager whose death following a July 4 boat trip remains under investigation, is set to receive the findings of an independent autopsy on Wednesday. The results are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Wells’ death, which occurred on an island off the Mississippi coast.

The independent autopsy was commissioned by the Wells family and their attorney, Ben Crump. Funding for this examination was provided by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick. The family seeks to ascertain whether Wells sustained injuries beyond those typically associated with drowning.

As of now, the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet publicly released its own findings from its autopsy. The lack of official conclusions from the state medical examiner, coupled with unanswered questions about the events of the July 4 boat trip, has contributed to the case garnering national attention.

The case has also touched upon broader issues, drawing attention due to a history of racial tensions in Mississippi. The circumstances of Wells’ death have resonated with many, highlighting ongoing concerns.
